Anti-Harassment and Discrimination Policy
Policy
In all reported instances of alleged harassment, discrimination, or bullying in connection with any YLM event or participant, the YLM Board of Directors will adhere to the guidance provided in USA Lacrosse's corrective action policy, as published via the link below.
The YLM Board of Directors will document all reported instances of alleged harassment, discrimination, or bullying and will investigate as appropriate under the circumstances. The YLM Board will make every effort to notify the relevant team coaches and association leaders within 24 hours of receiving a report. YLM notes, however, that its complete investigation of the incident may take longer.
With deference to the USAL policy linked below, the YLM Board's available corrective action includes:
- Level One: YLM board members will discuss undesirable conduct with coach, association leadership, player, and parents -- as appropriate -- to stress that the behavior will not be tolerated. Usually appropriate for a first offense.
- Level Two: YLM will suspend the offending player for one or more games depending on the severity of the incident. The player and parent (or legal guardian) must attend a meeting with a YLM board member and the player's coach and at least one of the player's association leaders to discuss appropriate behavior and next steps before the player can resume playing. The player will be warned that the next offense will result in his/her expulsion from league play for the remainder of the season. A level-two response will generally be warranted in the event of a second offense but may be warranted for a severe first offense.
- Level Three: In the event of a third offense, the player, coach, or other participant will be expelled from the league. No refund will be given. The player, coach, or other participant may, in the YLM Board's discretion, be permitted to participate in league play the next year but will be required to complete USA Lacrosse’s Cultural Competency training before registering.
NOTE: The above guidelines should not be regarded as absolute and may not necessarily be applied stepwise. Severe situations, as viewed through the YLM Board's discretion, could merit harsher sanctions -- even in the event a "first offense" -- and may result in immediate suspension or expulsion. In particular, any participant found guilty of major infractions (violence, racist, homophobic, or sexist slurs etc.) may be suspended immediately upon a first infraction.
Level One offenses will be administered by the YLM President or Vice President of Operations. Level Two offenses will be administered by both the YLM President and Vice President of Operations. Level Three offenses will be adjudicated by the entire Board of Directors.
